Flat Panel Wall Mounting Services Vs DIY, What Option Is
Best?
Article By Aberdeen Odd Jobs
"I've got a new Plasma TV, should I use Flat panel wall mounting services or is it easy
enough for me to do it myself?"
This is the question I get asked most often. To be honest there is no really easy answer to this but below I'll
give you some guidelines or a list of things to consider.
a.) Have you done it before?
If you have already carried out a wall mount tv job before, be it a LCD or Plasma TV you'll probably know how
easy or difficult it was last time. Obviously this is not the only consideration however it's the main starting
point.
b.) Is a stand an option? Size of room, budget, what you have already
Do you want to use a Television stand. There are some very neat and stylish TV stands on the market these days.
Many of them allow you to set the height of the TV and will come site flush against your wall, almost like you've
wall mounted it. They will also allow you to hide the cables inside the stand and keep everything nice and tidy, so
no need for drilling into the wall or adding conduit.
If you don't already have a stand then you will need to pay for one and they will probably be more expensive
than a TV wall mounting bracket however you should be able to get one for a similar price to using professional
flat panel wall mounting services like
Aberdeen odd jobs offer.
c.) What do you want done with the wires?
If you want to hide the wires and keep the clear and neat look to your room then this will also influence you
choice. There are more or less two options here.
The first is to hide the cable down the back of the wall. This will involve drilling.
The second is to by some conduit, attach this to the wall and then hide the cables inside the conduit. This can
be purchased from all good DIY shops, like B&Q in Aberdeen and is a really easy to cut to size and install. You
can even buy it with an adhesive pre applied to you just sick it straight onto your wall.
d.) How heavy is the TV?
There are plenty of different sizes of Plasma and LCD flat panel TVs. From 32, thought 40, right up to 60 or
even larger sizes on the market. The larger the TV the more robust and heavy duty the wall mount bracket needs to
be. This will mean drilling more and deeper holes too so will need some serious drill bits. Do you want to do this
yourself?
e.) What is the wall you want to mount your TV on made of?
If a wall in made of plaster board then it will be easy to drill into, provided you can find the supporting
struts, but may not be capably of supporting the larger TVs sizes.
If you are looking mounting your flat panel TV on a brick or will it will need some drilling to
create the holes, however this will allow you to support a much bigger load.
Finally if you the wall is made of stone, like in Aberdeen where we have a lot of granite, then you might even
need some very heavy duty drilling bits cut through this tough building material.
So there we have it. Five things to consider when deciding if you want to tackle a TV installation yourself or
if you should us one of the flat panel wall mounting services. Aberdeen odd jobs offer a turnkey service
that is cost effective professional and fasts.
